About Mekong Adventures
Travel Deeper Into Vietnam And Indochina
We are a small, locally owned travel company. We design private journeys across Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for travellers who want to slow down and meet the places they visit.
Our founder
A Guide First, A Business Second
Mekong Adventures was founded by Ryan Truong Van Hoang. Before he ran a travel company, Ryan worked for years as an inbound tour guide, meeting travellers at the airport, riding with them through the delta and answering their questions over long lunches in village homes.
Those years taught him that the moments people remember are rarely on the postcard. They remember the ferry that waited for them, the grandmother who poured tea, the child who raced their bicycle down a canal path. In 2013 he started his own travel business to build trips around those moments.
Today Ryan and the team still plan every itinerary themselves.

Our journey
From The Mekong Delta To Indochina
Before 2013
On the road as a guide
Ryan guides international visitors across Vietnam and learns what travellers truly value when they come to Vietnam.
2013
A travel business of his own
He starts his own company, building private trips with a stronger focus on quality, culture and local connection.
Today
Mekong Adventures
We travel from the northern mountains to the delta, and on to Angkor and Luang Prabang, with the Mekong still at the heart of what we do.
Our philosophy
The Best Journeys Happen Slowly
We do not believe in rushing from one attraction to the next. A good trip leaves time to stop at a roadside stall, to sit with a family after lunch, to wait for the light to change over the rice fields. We choose smaller roads, stay in places with character and keep groups private, so the day can bend around what you find interesting.
We want you to come home with beautiful photos, but also with a feeling for the people and places behind them.
What we value
The Values Behind Every Journey
Authenticity
Real places, real people and real stories. We show the everyday beauty of the region, not only its famous sights.
Slow travel
Enough time to stop, look, ask questions and take photos without feeling rushed.
Local connection
Meals in family homes, visits to small workshops and guides who grew up in the places they show you.
Respect
For local customs, for the people we visit and for the quiet character of the countryside.
Flexibility
Private trips that adapt to your pace, your interests and the weather on the day.
Lasting memories
We want every guest to leave with a warm, personal memory of Indochina that stays for years.

What makes us different
A More Personal Way To Explore
- We choose smaller roads. Village lanes, canal paths and quiet back roads where you can feel the local rhythm.
- We stop often. Time for street scenes, river views, markets and family kitchens is built into every day.
- We keep it private. Solo travellers, couples, families and small groups travel with their own guide and driver.
- We tell human stories. About food, work, family, history and the changing face of the region.
