Day 1 Hanoi to Sapa and Cat Cat Village
We leave Hanoi in the morning by comfortable limousine bus or private car and drive north on the highway to Lao Cai and up the mountain road to Sapa, arriving around lunchtime. After lunch and check-in, your guide takes you on an easy walk down to Cat Cat, a Black Hmong village on the slopes below the town, with a small waterfall, wooden houses and women weaving and dyeing hemp with indigo. The path is paved and has steps, and a car can bring you back up if you prefer. In the evening, wander around Sapa lake and the night market. Overnight at your hotel in Sapa.

Day 2 Fansipan Summit and the Muong Hoa Valley
A spectacular morning: we take the funicular from Sapa town and then the cable car over the Hoang Lien Son range to the top of Fansipan, at 3,143 metres the highest peak in Indochina. On a clear day the views over the mountains and valleys are breathtaking; even when the summit is in the clouds, the ride above the forest is unforgettable. Bring a warm layer, as it is much colder at the top. After lunch back in Sapa, we drive into the Muong Hoa valley and walk gently through the rice terraces between Lao Chai and Ta Van, visiting a Giay family home along the way. Overnight in Sapa.

Day 3 Sapa Market and Return to Hanoi
A slow morning to enjoy Sapa at your own pace. Your guide takes you to the local market, where Hmong and Dao women sell vegetables, herbs, textiles and handicrafts, and to the old stone church in the town centre, built in the French period. There is time for coffee with a view of the mountains and for last photos. After lunch, we take the limousine bus or private car back to Hanoi, arriving in the early evening. If you would like to stay longer in the north, we can continue to Bac Ha market on a Sunday or to Ha Giang.
