Itinerary

Every part can be changed to suit your group.

  1. Day 1 Phong Nha Cave and Paradise Cave

We meet you at Dong Hoi airport or train station and drive about an hour to Phong Nha town. A wooden boat takes us up the Son River and into Phong Nha Cave, gliding past rock formations in the cool darkness. After lunch we visit Paradise Cave, where a long boardwalk leads through chambers so large they are hard to believe. We spend the night at a family farmstay in the Bong Lai valley, with dinner and a quiet evening in the countryside. Bong Lai valley is a farming area of rice fields, rivers and limestone hills, and the farmstay is a simple, friendly place with bungalows, a garden and home-cooked meals. In the evening you can sit by the river with a cold drink, or join the family in preparing dinner.

  2. Day 2 A Full Day in the Jungle

After an early breakfast we drive into the national park and start walking with a local guide and a park ranger. The trail follows forest paths and streams under tall trees, with chances to spot birds, butterflies and monkeys. We stop for a picnic lunch by the water, swim in a clear pool and explore the entrance of a wild cave with headlamps. In the late afternoon we return to Dong Hoi for your onward travel. The trek is about 10 to 12 kilometres and includes some steep and slippery sections, so good shoes and a reasonable level of fitness are needed. The guides and rangers know the forest very well and share stories about the wildlife, the plants and the people who once lived in these hills.
