Hue Imperial Heritage and Perfume River Day Tour

1. Morning Perfume River, Thien Mu Pagoda and the Citadel

   We meet at your hotel at 8:00 AM and board a boat on the Perfume River for the slow ride to Thien Mu Pagoda, a landmark of Hue since the 17th century. From there a short drive brings us to the Imperial Citadel, where we walk along the old walls and through the courtyards and halls where the Nguyen emperors ruled. Lunch is at a local restaurant serving Hue specialties. Your guide shares the stories of the emperors, the court rituals and the war that damaged much of the Citadel, and shows you the parts being carefully restored today. There is time to sit in the shade of the old trees and watch local families who come here to walk and take photos.

   
2. Afternoon Minh Mang Tomb and Thuy Bieu Garden House

   After lunch we drive out to the tomb of Emperor Minh Mang, one of the most harmonious royal tombs, laid out along lakes, gates and pine-covered hills. We finish in Thuy Bieu village with a tea break in a traditional garden house, where our host is happy to answer your questions about life in Hue. Return to your hotel at around 5:00 PM. The garden houses of Thuy Bieu are quiet homes surrounded by fruit trees, flowers and small ponds, built in the traditional Hue style. It is a peaceful way to end a full day of history, with a cup of green tea and a few sweets made by the family.
