Luang Prabang Highlights in Two Days

1. Day 1 Temples of the Old Town and Mount Phousi

   We meet you at the airport and start with a walk through the old town, visiting Wat Xieng Thong with its sweeping roofs and glass mosaics, and the Royal Palace Museum. After lunch we continue to smaller temples where monks study and live. In the late afternoon we climb Mount Phousi to watch the sun set over the Mekong, then browse the night market. Luang Prabang is a UNESCO World Heritage town, with more than 30 temples and a quiet, relaxed atmosphere. In the evening, the night market fills the main street with handicrafts, textiles and street food, and it is a nice place to try Lao dishes and buy souvenirs.

   
2. Day 2 Pak Ou Caves and Kuang Si Waterfall

   Early risers can watch the monks collect alms at dawn. After breakfast we take a boat up the Mekong to the Pak Ou caves, filled with thousands of Buddha statues, stopping at a riverside village on the way. In the afternoon we drive to Kuang Si, where turquoise pools step down through the forest, with time to swim before returning to town. The alms giving is a sacred daily ritual, and your guide will explain how to watch it respectfully, from a distance and without flash photography. The boat to Pak Ou takes about two hours upstream, passing villages, fishermen and green hills along the Mekong. At Kuang Si there is also a bear rescue centre near the entrance.
